Ella's teacher told me about a conversation she's had with Ella. (uh-oh, I think). She goes on... Ella has told her that Ethan is her cousin, not her brother; and sometimes he sleeps at our house and sometimes he sleeps at a different house. He is not her brother, she has claimed. And... apparently, this has been going on all year?!?!! (I'm dumbfounded)
Rather than ask me about it and risk embarrasment, the teacher approached the preschool director recently to ask if Ethan was in fact a cousin or brother. As the year has progessed and he's grown, he looks an awful lot like a boy version of Ella. Their faces are looking more and more alike. The director confirmed he is in fact her brother. We got a good laugh and chalked it up to a great imagination. She said maybe Ella will become a great writer someday and put that imagination to good use.
